In a show of force, U.S. B-52 nuclear‑capable bombers flew over the Sea of Japan alongside Japanese F‑35 and F‑15 fighters on December 10, in a high‑profile show of force amid surging tensions between Tokyo and Beijing over recent Chinese drills. Japan’s Defence Ministry said the joint flight reaffirmed the two allies’ determination to prevent any unilateral change to the status quo by force and demonstrated the readiness of both the Self‑Defense Forces and U.S. forces as China and Russia step up combined bomber and carrier activity around Japan and South Korea.
