Violent 'Gen Z' protest now in Mexico: Attack on national palace, clashes with police - watch why

Thousands of protesters, inspired by global Gen Z movements, clashed with police outside Mexico City’s National Palace on November 15, demanding action against rampant crime, government corruption, and the recent assassination of Uruapan Mayor Carlos Manzo. Clashes broke out when masked demonstrators tore down metal barriers erected by riot police, some protesters throwing stones as security forces responded with tear gas. Many young demonstrators waved Mexican flags and decried the ruling Morena party’s handling of public safety, with powerful personal appeals for justice and an end to impunity. The murder of Manzo by a 17-year-old during a public event has become a rallying point, fueling mass outrage and a wave of anti-corruption, anti-violence marches across Mexico. Hundreds were injured, and dozens arrested, as Gen Z–led rallies swept multiple cities.
