Afghans to face action as Taliban orders ban on cultivation of opium poppy

Taliban's supreme leader Akhundzada ordered a ban on poppy cultivation in Afghanistan. He warned that the hardline Islamist govt would crack down on farmers planting the crop. The decree was read out by govt spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid at a press conference. "Following a decree issued by the supreme leader of Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan [Hibatullah Akhundzada], all Afghans are informed that from now on cultivation of poppy has been strictly prohibited across the country,” said Zabihullah Mujahid.
