Away from homeland, Syrian refugees get a taste of their tradition

A Syrian folklore troupe performed traditional dances and sword fights at Zaatari camp in Jordan in the hope of keeping the culture alive. The founder worked in a similar group in his hometown of Homs before fleeing the conflict in Syria in 2013. His aim is to make sure that the younger refugees are exposed to their country's traditions. The group is a regular fixture at weddings, births and other celebratory events in the camp. Nearly 80,000 Syrian refugees live at Zataari camp. The Jordanian government says there are 1.4 million Syrians in the country at the moment, of whom around 633,000 are registered with the U.N. refugee agency UNHCR.
