CIA chief blames Sri Lanka's 'dumb bet' on China for crisis | Details

  • US spy agency CIA's Chief has blamed China for the economic and political crisis in Sri Lanka. Bill Burns said that Sri Lanka's 'dumb bets' on China let to its complete collapse. He further added that Lanka should be treated as a warning for all other nations to now fall in the dragon debt trap. China has invested heavily in Sri Lanka -- strategically located in the Indian Ocean and off India, often seen as a rival of Beijing. The Xi Jinping administration worked closely with former president Gotabaya Rajapaksa. The new President Ranil Wickremesinghe has a big task ahead to pull Sri Lanka out of its worst crisis.
