Elephants are guests of honour at this Thai banquet
Updated on Mar 16, 2017 11:52 am IST
Dozens of elephants are treated to a fruit buffet in Ayutthaya to raise awareness for the animals on Thailand's Elephant Day. Elephants are an important part of the Thai culture and have played an important role in Thai history for centuries. But today they are treated as tourist attraction which has led to their maltreatment by owners. There are only 3700 elephants left in the wild and a larger number are domesticated.
