‘Kinky Boots’ themed cake wins the New York Cake show

In its fifth year, the New York Cake Show challenged pastry chefs and amateur cake makers alike to make Broadway-themed creations out of sugar and flour. From “Mary Poppins” to “Willy Wonka,” this year's cake show contestants showed that cakes and cookies can be transformed into art. For some, the highlight of the show was the flower section. Chefs from all over the United States turned sugar into flowers that most people would not have been able to distinguish from their living counterparts. Most of the chefs took the Broadway theme to heart and created a sugary homage to their favorite musicals and plays. There were cakes dedicated to “Willy Wonka,” “Lion King,” “Rent,” “Beauty and Beast,” and many other Broadway favorites.
