Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado has symbolically presented her 2025 Nobel Peace Prize medal to U.S. President Donald Trump during a meeting at the White House, calling it recognition of his “unique commitment to freedom” amid Venezuela’s political crisis. Machado’s gesture, meant to honour Trump’s role in her country’s recent upheaval, comes just weeks after U.S. forces captured former President Nicolás Maduro and amid doubts about U.S. support for democratic transition. While the Norwegian Nobel Institute has clarified that a Peace Prize cannot be shared, transferred or revoked, Machado said she offered the medal as a sign of gratitude. Trump acknowledged the gesture on social media, calling it a “wonderful gesture of mutual respect.” Watch the video to find out more.
