NATO Nation France Challenges Ally U.S. At G7 Meeting | Fight Over Seizing Russian Assets

France has publicly challenged the view of U.S. Treasury Secretary on unfreezing the Russian assets, seized amid its war in Ukraine, after a meeting of the G7 Finance ministers. Janet Yellen believes that it would be legal to monetize some $300 billion in frozen Russian assets. However, French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire rejected the U.S. position and said there was no sufficient basis in international law to proceed, and further work was required.
