Turkey cautious on new Taliban govt; appeal to UN by fallen Afghan govt's envoy

  • After the Taliban named the leadership of their new government in Afghanistan, the erstwhile administration's permanent representative to the United Nations criticised the move. Ghulam Isaczai said that the new government was 'anything but inclusive'. Even Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the President of Turkey - a country in close touch with the Taliban - reacted cautiously to the news. Meanwhile, the Taliban's spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid tried to counter criticism by pointing out that it's a caretaker government and many departments are yet to be filled.
