UK PM ‘regrets’ Jallianwala Bagh massacre: ‘Shameful scar in our history’

Days before the hundredth anniversary of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, the British Prime Minister expressed regret over the incident. Theresa May called it a shameful scar in British-Indian history. Following the expression of regret, PM May hoped that UK's ties with India grow stronger. On April 13, 1919, British General Dyer shut the gates of the Jallianwala Bagh in Amritsar and opened indiscriminate fire on civilians. The firing continued for about 10 minutes, and an estimated 1,000 people were killed while another 1,500 were injured.
