Ukraine on December 25 announced that its forces had successfully liberated five towns in the Dnipropetrovsk region from Russian occupation, declaring it a significant local breakthrough in the ongoing war. The operation to reclaim these areas was highly complex and prolonged, lasting more than 100 days. The freed villages were identified as Orestopil, Novoselivka, Sosnivka, Khoroshe, and Vorone — all small settlements that had been under Russian control for months. Even as Ukrainian troops celebrated progress, Kyiv accused Russia of carrying out fresh attacks on civilian areas, including markets and residential homes, during Christmas festivities on December 25. Meanwhile, the Russian military claimed on the very same day that its forces had captured another settlement in the embattled Donetsk region, marking an apparent counter‑gain for Moscow.
