12-year-old Dakota Rodgers intended to raise a Broiler chicken for eight weeks as part of a 4-H project. Broiler chickens are primarily raised for their meat and are usually ready to go to slaughter at eight weeks old.
Nine months later, the boy's chicken on a diet of corn and seeds the chicken has doubled its normal size. The boy's father, Darell Rodgers, explained most adult male Broiler chickens weigh about 12 pounds.
The family named their chicken “Big Mac.” Walking has turned into a bit of a wobble, and earlier this week the family used their household scale to weigh the chicken. Bic Mac was a whopping 24 pounds.
