A set of great Argus Pheasants are seen in high spirits performing a mating dance for the cameras at Chester Zoo.

The male pheasant does a dramatic display of feathers while the female pheasant seemingly looks on in distaste.

John Brown, a representative from the Zoo told Reuters that this 'dance' is actually quite common. The idea is that the male is trying to attract the female to him with 'his long feathers', when the male bird reveals his plummage the impression is given that 'hundreds of eyes' are revealed on the feathers as they fan out,

Great Argus pheasants get their name from Greek mythology in which 'Argus' is a 'one hundred-eye-giant', referencing to the eyes on the birds feathers.
