Watch | Soyabean hurling tradition in Japan

The Japanese welcomed spring in Tokyo by hurling soyabeans in a traditional ritual called 'mamemaki'. It's all part of a ritual to usher in good luck. Over the years, the ritual has evolved and now crowds by the thousands gather at temples to participate. Soybeans are essential ingredients in many important Japanese foods and it is believed that it kicks out demons and lets good luck come in.
