With their history threatened by Islamic State militants, Syrians have succeeded in evacuating museums across the country in recent years. Many even risked their lives to hide hundreds of thousands of artifacts. Ancient artifacts, including jugs, antique bowls and the head of a stone statue, have been brought to Damascus from museums across the besieged country, where they are being logged, photographed and packed up for shipment to undisclosed locations.
