Russia is preparing to return the nuclear-powered battlecruiser Admiral Nakhimov to active service after decades of modernization. The upgraded Kirov-class warship will feature 96 S-400 air-defense launch cells, 80 universal missile launchers capable of firing Zircon hypersonic missiles, and Ka-31 airborne early-warning helicopters equipped with the E-801M Oko radar. Designed to detect threats far beyond the horizon, Admiral Nakhimov is expected to become the world's largest operational combat ship. The vessel is viewed as a major boost to Russia's naval power and a significant challenge for NATO's maritime forces in the Arctic and North Atlantic.
