A lot of older siblings remember the day their brothers or sisters were born, but very few can say they helped with the delivery. Twelve-year-old Jacee Carraway, from Mississippi, US, did just that.
Jacee had accompanied her parents Dede and Zack Carraway to the hospital, as they welcomed their third child last Tuesday and ended up helping out in the delivery of her baby brother Cayson. The pictures went viral on Facebook, but opinions were squarely divided. Some people saw it as a precious moment for the family, while others questioned the ethics of the doctor and the parents’ decision.
Jacee had wanted to witness the birth of her baby brother and had asked her parents to let her accompany them to the delivery room. However, she couldn’t see the process because she wasn’t tall enough. Her mother’s attending doctor, Walter Wolfe, asked her put on a suit and assist him in childbirth while her father, Zack gave a thumbs up. The doctor also allowed her to cut the umbilical cord.
Talking about the operation, Jacee told MS News Now, “I actually, like delivered him, like, he let me actually push down and pull the baby out...I was like, wow, like I’ve played fake doctor before, but this is, like, the real thing, this is the real deal. I was really nervous.”

{{/usCountry}}This news went viral in an instant. Facebook user Nikki Smith shared the images from the hospital on her Facebook page, starting a social media storm. Some commentators were fascinated by the images while others were of the opinion that a young girl handling a baby did not make for a safe prospect. Differences of opinion arose when one section of people viewed the episode to be traumatic for the young girl.
Nevertheless, the post met with warm comments as well. One Facebook user said, “Such a loving and powerful moment in this girl’s (daughter/sister’s ) life. Wow..this picture.Just the look on her face is beautiful, almost made me cry”. The pictures received more than 221K likes and 193K shares and have been trending on Twitter.
Jacee’s mother Dede shared her happiness with Fox News, saying, “I don’t even know if there are words to describe how it felt. Never in a million years, if you would have told me 12 years ago she (Jacee) would be delivering my last born, I would have told you - you’re crazy!”
