The attack took place at Vocational School Complex No. 4 in Ostrołęka, a town north of the capital Warsaw, news agency Associated Press (AP) reported.

Emergency services were called to the school after the incident, which happened at around 11 am, according to the provincial police headquarters.

Police said the attacker used a “sharp object” but did not provide further details about the weapon.

Two victims seriously injured

The seven injured people included both students and teachers. Two of the victims were reported to be in serious condition, while five were under the age of 18, police said.

The alleged attacker was also injured when he was arrested. He was taken to hospital, but police did not give details about the seriousness of his injuries.

Police said the suspect was detained on a riverbank less than 1 kilometre (half a mile) from the school after apparently trying to escape from the scene.

Mayor says situation under control

He added that authorities were at the scene to establish “all the circumstances of the incident.”

Police in the Mazovia province, which includes Warsaw, shared a photograph on X showing an officer with a person lying on the ground with their hands tied behind their back. The person's face and hands were pixelated in the image.

An investigation into the attack is underway.

School attacks uncommon in Poland

Attacks at schools are uncommon in Poland. However, a stabbing at a Catholic convent in southeastern Poland last month left one person dead and four others injured. Police arrested a suspect in that case.
