What police said
The New South Wales Police confirmed the shooting incident on X and said the police operation is going on in the area. “Two people are in police custody at Bondi Beach; however, the police operation is ongoing and we continue to urge people to avoid the area. Please obey ALL police directions. Do not cross police lines,” the police department said on X.
The police also urged the public to avoid the area around Bondi Beach amid the ongoing police operations. “We are still asking people in the area to take shelter until we can determine what is happening. We have media officer en route to scene, more information when confirmed,” the police said on X.

PM Albanese expresses grief
Expressing grief over the Bondi Beach shooting, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese termed the incident as “shocking and distressing.” “Police and emergency responders are on the ground working to save lives. My thoughts are with every person affected,” he said in a statement.
"We are aware of an active security situation in Bondi. We urge people in the vicinity to follow information from NSW Police," spokesperson for Albanese was quoted as saying.
Bondi Beach shooting visuals on social media
Several users on social media shared several video footages of Bondi Beach shooting which showed panicked people vacating the beach area. Some videos shot from a distance also showed two gunmen dressed in black opening fire at the crowd. HT.com could not independently verify the authenticity of the videos.
