Trump assassination LIVE: Victim killed in Trump rally identified as Corey Comperatore

Pennsylvania’s governor, Josh Shapiro, paid tribute to the victim of the Donald Trump rally shooting, 50-year-old former fire chief Corey Comperatore, stating that Corey "died a hero."

"We lost a fellow Pennsylvanian last night, Corey Comperatore," Shapiro said. "I just spoke to Corey’s wife and Corey’s two daughters. Corey was a girl dad. Corey was a firefighter. Corey went to church every Sunday. Corey loved his community. And most especially, Corey loved his family."

Corey was a dedicated supporter of the former president and had been looking forward to attending the rally. During the tragic event, Corey heroically protected his family, diving on them to shield them from harm. "Corey was the very best of us," Shapiro said. "May his memory be a blessing."

To honour Corey Comperatore, Shapiro announced that flags would be flown at half-staff throughout Pennsylvania.

Trump assassination attempt: Which weapon was used? Biden's haunting tweet before the attack causes frenzy

Just hours before the harrowing incident struck Trump at his Pennsylvania rally, where 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks apparently opened fire with an “AR-style” semiautomatic rifle at the former president, Biden shared a tweet that now occupies a haunted space on social media.

President Biden’s cursed post, which, as internet users would call it, “didn’t age well.”

“I want to ban assault weapons and require universal background checks. Trump promised the NRA that he’d do nothing about guns. And he means it,” the commander-in-chief wrote on the micro-blogging platform.

Law enforcement officials reportedly recovered an “AR-style” semiautomatic rifle from the scene in Pennsylvania. As one of the most notoriously recognised weapons, the AR-15 has been at the centre of many US mass shootings in the past. Related to the automatic military combat M-16 rifle, this weapon infamously killed 59 people during the October 2017 Las Vegas attack. It was also responsible for gunning down five people at the anti-LGBTQ+ November 2022 attack in Colorado Springs.

Melania Trump released an exclusive statement via social media on Sunday morning, July 14, after the harrowing events of the Butler rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday. Addressing the nation's divisive political state, she urged citizens to “remember that when the time comes to look beyond the left and the right, beyond the red and the blue, we all come from families with the passion to fight for a better life together while we are here, in this earthly realm.”

She also thanked the Secret Service agents for risking their lives to protect Trump. “When I watched that violent bullet strike my husband, Donald, I realised my life, and Barron's life, were on the brink of devastating change. I am grateful to the brave secret service agents and law enforcement officials who risked their own lives to protect my husband.”

Trump assassination attempt LIVE: ‘Worst negligence in history’ or an ‘inside job’? Conspiracies take flight

Unwarranted cases of political violence almost always give birth to unfounded conspiracy theories and speculations that simply come into being out of thin air. The unprecedented Saturday attack on former President Donald Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania, is now being labelled the “most serious attempt to assassinate a president or presidential campaign since Ronald Reagan was shot in 1981.”

Social media lit up in speculative debate without a second thought, alleging the incident was “staged” and particularly masterminded months ahead of the 2024 general elections to rope in sympathy for Trump, racing forward for his re-election bid.

Blood on “Biden's hands,” an inside job with a registered Republican voter, or a major security lapse?
