UPDATE: The vegetation fire that broke out Sunday near Highway 12 and Pennsylvania Avenue in Fairfield has been contained, with forward progress stopped, according to the Fairfield Fire Department.
In a Facebook update, the department stated: “The vegetation fire at Hwy 12 and Pennsylvania burned approximately 15 acres, forward progress has been stopped. Road closures are still in effect.”
Incident Command reports that fire crews will remain on scene for another 1 to 2 hours to conduct mop-up operations.
Earlier in the day, the Fairfield Fire Department confirmed the fire had prompted a second alarm and road closures in the area: “Fairfield Firefighters are currently working a vegetation fire Hwy 12 and Pennsylvania, roads are closed, second alarm.”

In a Facebook post, Fairfield, CA Police Department said, “The Fairfield Fire Department is currently battling a second alarm brush fire at Pennsylvania Avenue and Highway 12, with the fire heading eastbound on Highway 12. There are currently no residential structures in danger, but motorists are advised to avoid westbound Highway 12 through Fairfield. Please find an alternate route of travel.”
“Those in the 1400 and 15500 blocks of of James Street were initially given the option to evacuate, but at time of posting the fire is no longer threatening residential structures and there are no evacuation orders in place,” the statement added.
