Thousands in Los Angeles were left without power on Saturday amid a massive outage

Thousands of Los Angeles residents were left in the dark on Saturday after a massive power outage swept through large parts of the city, according to the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP). The outage stretched from Santa Monica to Downtown, affecting homes, businesses, and key neighborhoods across the region.

According to LADWP's outage map, reports peaked around 4:15 p.m. EDT, showing more than 100,818 customers without power across its service area.

Los Angeles County recorded the highest number of outages, with 6.3% of customers impacted. LADWP currently ranks first nationwide for total power outages and second for the percentage of affected customers among all utilities.

Residents react

Frustrated residents flooded social media with complaints, with some speculating about a possible link to the ongoing US government shutdown.

One person wrote on X, “What is going on in Los Angeles right now??!! Huge power outage.”

A third user reported, “Huge La power outage… like huge. So far beverlywood, cheviot Hills, Century city confirmed out.”

Another reported, “Power randomly went out in my building just now and it’s sounding like maybe all of Los Angeles???”

Another person wrote, “Seems like the power outage is huge here in L.A.. South L.A, Ktown. all the way west to at least the 405 are out.”

As of now, LADWP has not confirmed the cause of the outage.
