On August 6, Amy Bevins was questioned about the text messages she shared with Clancy before the Massachusetts mother took the lives of her three children in 2023. These messages offer a poignant insight into Clancy's challenges and the lingering questions that persist.

Amy Bevins testified

Bevins informed the jury that she had received a message from Clancy, a friend since childhood, in which Clancy conveyed experiencing "dark thoughts."

Bevins stated to the jury that she got a message from Clancy, her childhood friend, in which Clancy revealed having "dark thoughts."

“She had shared that she had been taking a medication that caused her to have some dark thoughts, but that she was going to, or had been weaning, like tapering off that medication,” Bevins mentioned. “I remember it being something where there was conveying of hope, and that it was going to be a, you know—we were moving in a positive direction.”

Bevins further testified that she met with Clancy while he was in custody after the murders, but they did not talk about the children or the incidents; she mentioned that Clancy's sister had cautioned her prior to the meeting against mentioning these topics.

The court also received testimony from Bethany DeCollibus, another acquaintance of Clancy, who stated that she encountered the defendant at Cora's birthday celebration in January.

Clancy admitted she ‘felt like a zombie’

Clancy had earlier stated that she was experiencing difficulties with sleep and remarked at the party that she "felt like a zombie."

DeCollibus also expressed her concerns regarding Clancy's sleep challenges.

Andrea Hennigan, a friend of Clancy and a fellow nurse, testified that Clancy had discussed her sleep struggles in November 2022 and subsequently referred to experiencing "brain fog."

Lindsay Clancy murder trial

Clancy has confessed to the murder of her three young children—Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, who was 8 months old—by using exercise bands to strangle each child in the basement of their residence in Duxbury. Additionally, she inflicted cuts on her wrists and throat before jumping out of her bedroom window in what appears to be a suicide attempt, resulting in her paralysis from the waist down.

The prosecution is working to establish that Clancy was mentally competent at the time she killed her children, while the defense contends that she was experiencing postpartum psychosis exacerbated by various medications she had been prescribed.
