TORONTO : An Islamic State supporter was shot dead by police in a township in the Canadian province of Ontario on Wednesday after he set off an improvised explosive device.
Aaron Daniel Driver, 24, was trying to detonate another device when he was killed in the confrontation in Ontario, reports said.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police said it acted after receiving “credible information of a potential terrorist threat”.“A suspect was identified and the proper course of action has been taken to ensure that there is no danger to the public’s safety ,” it said, adding this was an“unfolding matter” and investigation is still underway. Police swarmed the residence of Driver, who was arrested and released after signing a peace bond last year. According to C TV News, an internal government document said Driver had planned a suicide bombing in a “public area”.
