The Falling Man, a photo of a person falling from the North Tower of the World Trade Center at 9:41 am on 9/11, was taken by AP photographer Richard Drew.
While the image gives the impression he's falling straight down, the sequence shows him tumbling through the air. Some 200 people jumped to their deaths from the World Trade Center, forced out by fire, smoke or despair.
The Falling Man was printed in the New York Times three days after the attack. The public response was so negative that it was not printed again for six years.
Since then, it has been the topic of articles, television shows and a documentary.
The man is generally believed to be Jonathan Briley, a restaurant sound engineer. An asthmatic, he was likely driven to his death by the smoke. His brother was a member of the disco group, Village People.
