The Philippine military says two army officers are dead following a shooting by a disgruntled sergeant.

Army spokesman Lt Col Romeo Brawner on Thursday said that Sgt Elias Tial opened fire inside army headquarters in Manila and killed two of his superiors before escaping. A manhunt has been launched to find him.

Brawner says Tial was on guard duty when he shot his commanding officer and three others late on Wednesday with an M-16 rifle. Two victims died and two others are hospitalised.
Brawner says the suspect was apparently upset over the death of his father and was seeking permission to attend his burial.
