Indian community leaders in Australia applauded the Victorian police for resolving the killing of the three-year-old Indian toddler after an Indian taxi driver was arrested and charged on Sunday for the ghastly crime.
Twenty-three year old Indian man Gursewak Dhillon was arrested and charged over the death of an Indian toddler Gurshan Singh Channa, whose body was found three days ago in a Melbourne suburb.
Federation of Indian Associations of Victoria (FIAV) president Vasan Srinivasan said the Indian community expressed their gratitude to the diligent efforts by Victorian state police in promptly arresting the person or persons who they believe to be responsible for Gurshan's tragic death.
"We would also like to express our appreciation to all those who assisted in the investigation, from the SES volunteers to the general public, and in particular, those who came forward with information that may have assisted with the charges being laid," he said.
"We expressed our heartfelt condolences to Gurshan’s family and friends who are obviously, continuing to experience unbelievable grief," Vasan said.
Lauding the swift action of the Victorian police, Primus Telecom chief Ravi Bhatia said "the Indian diaspora would like to thank the police and state government for devoting maximum possible resources and professionalism in their work to resolve the toddlers case on the speediest possible manner."
