A protester died in the Brazilian state of Sao Paulo on Thursday after being run over by a car on a day of nationwide street protests over the huge cost of the 2014 World Cup, police said.

Police said the victim died after a motorist hit him and two other protesters in the city of Ribeirao Preto, located 330 kilometers (200 miles) from Sao Paulo.
