A Qantas flight from Hong Kong to Perth in Australia plunged about 100 feet (30 meters) after hitting severe turbulence on Monday, injuring seven passengers.

The Qantas A330-300 Airbus, with 206 passengers and 13 crew on board, was four hours out of Hong Kong when it hit an air pocket over Borneo, according to Qantas spokesman David Epstein.

Keith Huxtable, a passenger, described the brief but terrifying plunge as "like falling out of a 30-storeyed building".

Several passengers without their seatbelts fastened were hurled around the cabin.

Epstein said the pilot aboard QF68, Captain Brett Flack, decided it was safe to fly on to Perth after the injuries had been reported back to medical authorities in Australia.
