British police on Saturday scoured dilapidated tenements in Liverpool in northwestern England looking for a "bomb factory" where 12 suspects held in a terror plot may have hidden explosives, as officials termed the foiled attack as "al-Qaeda driven".
Police were granted a further seven day remand of the 11 of the 12 suspects, while an 18-year-old student was released into the custody of the UK Border Agency, for possible prosecution about his immigration status.
A police spokesman said that the rest of the 11 suspects arrested were being questioned and were held in custody in various locations across Britain.
The search for the terrorist bomb factory, which may have been used to store explosives, was being concentrated on a rundown block of flats east of Liverpool city centre, media reports in London said.
The reports have suggested that the plot might have been set to begin as early as this holiday weekend and bought out glaring lapses in granting entry visas to the suspects, all of whom are Pakistanis and came in London on study visas.
