With ‘great style’, cat strays into pitch during Everton match

Kevin Mirallas had just scored Everton’s second goal in the third-round tie with an 85th-minute penalty when a black and white cat crept onto the pitch in the Everton penalty area.

After giving Everton goalkeeper Joel Robles the runaround, it was picked up by a member of the Goodison Park security staff and taken away, allowing the game to resume.

Asked if it might prove a good omen, Everton manager Roberto Martinez replied: “Hopefully. I thought he had great style and movement.”

Another stray grey and white feline had become an internet sensation in 2012 after it interrupted a Liverpool vs Tottenham Hotspur premier league game at the Anfield, entrancing 44,000 fans who chanted “A cat, a cat, cat”, the Daily Mail reported.

The ‘Anfield cat’, who soon had a Twitter following, reportedly even strolled past the then Liverpool manager Kenny Danglish and rested on the pitch until it was released into the street.
