Security forces killed four militants as they foiled a pre-dawn fidayeen attack on a CRPF camp in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday.
A police spokesperson said the militants were killed while attempting a suicide attack at the 45Bn headquarters of the CRPF at Sumbal in Bandipora district around 4.10am.
The four tried to storm the camp hurling grenades and resorting to heavy firing, he said. But their attempt was foiled by alert sentries, who immediately retaliated resulting in a gun battle which lasted over an hour.
The Sumbal police also joined in the encounter.
“Attackers were neutralised 10 to 15 yards from the fence of the camp,” inspector general of the CRPF Ravideep Sahi told HT.
Sahi said initial investigations suggest all the slain militants were foreigners. Sources say they probably infiltrated in the state recently.
The police spokesperson said four AK rifles, one UBGL (Underbarrel Grenade Launcher) and some ammunition were recovered from the slain militants.
The J&K director general of police Shesh Paul Vaid also tweeted about the incident.
