A physical training instructor at a private college in Bikaner district has been arrested for allegedly raping a Dalit minor student who was found dead, police said on Friday.
Nokha MLA and leader of opposition Rameshwar Dudi raised the issue in the Assembly on Friday. Home minister Gulab Chand Kataria assured a fair probe.
The 16-year-old victim was in her second year of a Basic School Training Certificate (BSTC) course in Jain Adarsh Kanya Shikshak Prakshikshan Sansthan in Nokha sub-division of Bikaner district. Sources said hostel warden and accused Priya Shukla sent the girl to clean the room of the instructor and prime accused Vijendra Singh on the evening of March 28. When she did not return till midnight, her roommates informed Shukla.
The victim’s roommates and the warden found Singh and the minor in a compromising position after which the college administration forced the two to write a letter of apology, threatening them of trouble if they don’t mend ways.
The victim was found dead inside a water tank outside her hostel on March 28 morning. Her body was handed over to her parents and cremated at Trimohi village on Friday.
Police have registered a first information report against Singh, warden Shukla and owner of the institute Ishwar Chand under sections dealing with murder, rape, destruction of evidence of Indian Penal Code along with sections of SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989 and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act on them.
