Here is your chance to experience Saudi Arabia while you are still in Delhi. From exhibitions of photographs, calligraphy and comics to cultural events the Capital is ready to host a first of its kind Saudi Cultural Week.

The Cultural Week, which is being hosted by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), was inaugurated on Sunday. Various visual artworks by Saudi Arabia’s known artists are being displayed at the event. The artworks include plastic art, children art, photography, and exhibition of two old mosque pictures. “The idea behind the Week is to popularise the culture and tradition of this Gulf country in India,” says Suresh K Goel, director general, ICCR.

An exclusive fashion exhibition will also be organised to show Saudi Arabia’s traditional dresses such as Taif, Saya, Men Meshah, Jazan T-shirt, and Mozanaf. “These traditional dresses depict the rich cultural heritage of the country,” says Goel.

To add the flavour of the Saudi cuisine to the celebrations, the holy Zamzam water from Mecca is also being served at the event. This water is accompanied by special Arabic coffee and dates, served by people dressed in the traditional dress worn at Mecca.

The event also has six trained artists from Saudi Arabia, who apply Henna on women’s hand. “All the women visiting the venue around this time can get free Henna art done,” Goel adds.
