His art is indeed unique. He uses wine as colours on canvas. Meet the Italian contemporary artist Vincenzo Reda, who was in the Capital recently to present his work to Indian connoisseurs.
Titled The Mystical Goblet, his exhibition showcased 15 of his wine-inspired paintings. Reda has been painting on paper, cloth and glass using red and white wine since 1993. Before using wine for his paintings — which are on display in Italy, South Africa, Brazil, Germany and Russia — Reda studies its each and every detail and uses various mediums to paint; from cotton and sponge to hand and even his foot at times!
The whole magic started when once while having a meal in a restaurant, wine fell on one of his friend’s business card accidentally. The image created left a thought in his mind and inspired him to start this new artform. “Sometimes, particularly at night, after drinking wine, I spread it on certain types of paper and wait for the miracle to happen. But it’s not that simple; I have to wait for days, weeks and even months for the shapes and shades that I desire,” says the artist.
On an invitation of Radisson Hotel, New Delhi, Vincenzo Reda interacted with leading names from Delhi art fraternity and shared his experience and passion for wine paintings with a select audience. The paintings are on display at The Med, Radisson Hotel, Delhi till December 6.
