There are gods, there are goddesses, and then there’s something above it all, shows this French act in town. Awe-inspiring acrobatics, sweeping song-dance routine and powerful music. This is what French show, Mana- A Cirque Spectacle, which will be performed in Gurgaon soon, is striving to do.

Awe-inspiring acrobatics, sweeping song-dance routine and powerful music. This is what French show, Mana- A Cirque Spectacle, which will be performed in Gurgaon soon, is striving to do.

Depicting the struggle between four natural forces, fire, air, earth and water the show is about hope for a new world created by Mana, the superpower above all gods and goddesses. “The concept is very Indian. Each natural force is represented by a female goddess, just like in the Indian culture,” says Stephane Haffner, director of the show.

Originally a 90-minute spectacle, the show has been cut short to 80 minutes with a mix of English and French songs and dialogues for the Indian audience. “If a character speaks French in parts, he/she repeats it in English,” says Alexandre Haffner, co-director. The costumes, we are told, are wonderfully splendid and open up on stage with feathers, drapes, funky headgear, wings and attachments. With fiery music to soft numbers for water and sensual cabaret for Earth, there is a different music theme for every scene. There are a total of seven acrobatic acts in which performers will hang directly above the audience. “The two singers on the team are skilled acrobats. We hang them in the air and they sing live,” Stephane says.
