We may all covet a Husain, Sabavala or Raza artwork on our walls, but not many of us have wallets deep enough to afford one. To counter this problem, Artic Vision Art Gallery at Goregaon (W) is organising what they call an Affordable Art Fair. On till July 16, the aim of the fair is to popularise art amongst the average Indian and help them buy artworks created by well-known artists.

“We are offering 300 paintings, sculptures and even ceramic works by 50 well-known artists as part of the exhibition. Subrata Sen, Rupali Madan and Achut Palav are some of the artists whose works will be available at the fair,” says Debashrita Baidya, the organiser of the fair, adding that the artworks include drawings, calligraphy works, paintings in different media, sculptures in wood and fibre, ceramic artworks as well as digital artworks.

And keeping in mind that the fair has been organised with the idea to popularise art amongst people with limited financial resources but a keen desire to buy artwork, the price range for the vivid artworks available ranges from Rs 200 to Rs 25,000.

Should the fair find takers, similar exhibitions could become a regular feature in the city. Kasturi Karnik, a physics student and art lover says, “Art has always been an intrinsic part of Indian culture, but finding affordable art is difficult. Such an exhibition can help the common man procure pieces that could find a place of pride in our living rooms.”
