Bhargavi Chirmule says she enjoys being on stage because of the freedom and its experimental factor

Bhargavi Chirmule is excited that her ongoing play, Amchya Hicha Prakaran, is completing 75 shows this week. The actor has been a part of the show since its inception, and in the past three months they have managed to reach this milestone.

Chirmule wanted to feature in a play for a long time. However, she was looking for a story that would excite her and be relevant too. Amchya Hicha Prakaran, she says, is a play about relationships, social media and how things progress when the two are intertwined. “It is a very relevant play. There are few plays that bring nostalgia to the audience, and then there are plays that are relatable and relevant. This is the latter. It is about today’s generation. Having said that, it is not only about youngsters but also about the older generation who have given in to social media,” says Bhargavi.

She adds that the play is a right balance of love, companionship and the influx of social media in our lives. “It touches on some sensitive topics such as communication gap, the dependence on the Internet and how we have started to use social media as a medium of our expression,” she says.

She adds that for an actor on stage, two shows are never the same. That is what she loves most about the medium. At the end of this month, the play will be staged in Sydney and Melbourne, Australia.
