Thirteen children escaped from a juvenile detention facility in Sagar district after beating and handcuffing a guard. While eight of them were caught by police, four were handed over by their families, and search for the remaining escapee is on.

Civil Line police said the 13 minors escaped from the correction facility at Rajghat Road on Monday evening. They beat up the guard, Prahlad Singh, and made away with the gate keys and his mobile phone.

All exit points from the city were subsequently cordoned off and police teams were deployed across the city on the order of police superintendent Sachin Atulkar.

Eight escapees were caught at or around the bus stand before they could board a bus to flee the city.

Three children were brought to the police by their family members on Monday, and a fourth the next day. One is still absconding.

3 children were over age 16 and feared being tried as adults

Prima facie evidence suggests three children were over age 16 and feared being tried as adults after a committee reviewed their crimes. The trio planned the escape and allegedly pressured others to join them.
