All India Congress Committee (AICC) chief Sonia Gandhi will visit areas affected by unseasonal rains and hailstorms in Madhya Pradesh on April 2, said state Congress spokesperson KK Mishra.

The Congress president is likely to meet the affected farmers of Manasa and Neemuch towns in the western Madhya Pradesh, said an office-bearer in the state Congress.

After the hailstorms that caused extensive damage to crops in the state, many farmers committed suicide due to failure to repay loans.

The state Congress has questioned the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party for its failure to announce a special package for the farmers. Madhya Pradesh Congress president Arun Yadav on Monday said Union home minister Rajnath Singh came to the state for ‘hailstorm tourism’ and kept mum over compensation to farmers.
