Police in Gwalior on Tuesday claimed to have solved in record time (within 10 hours) the murder of four people, including two children and two women, which shook the city on Monday morning.
Extra-marital love affair and property dispute between two families was reported to be the reason behind gruesome killings. Dead bodies stacked in three gunny bags were recovered from different locations under Janakganj and Bahodapur police circles. Police have arrested seven persons identified as Mahesh, Deepak, Deva, Vijay, Ganga Bai Goswami, Uma Goswami and Surbhi Goswami and also recovered two bikes used to ferry dead bodies.
Superintendent of police HN Mishra said dead bodies of Rinki Goswami (35), her mother Ishwari Goswami (65) and Manwi (8) and Chetna (6), daughters of Rinki, bore severe injury marks and it appears they were beaten mercilessly before they were strangulated. Deceased Rinki was a divorcee and was maintaining live-in relationship for past two years with a distant relative Puran Goswami who is married and has family.
Puran’s family, including wife Uma and son Mahesh, lived with Uma’s mother Ganga Bai at her residence at Koteshwar (Bahodapur area). Rinki, however, lodged a complaint against Puran. He was subsequently arrested and sent to jail. The incident fumed the Puran’s family further who decided to take the revenge.

Rinki, her mother Ishwari, along with Rinki’s two daughters reached Gang Bai’s house on Sunday. Accused bolted the house from inside and beat them up and strangulated them. Loud music was played to confuse neighbours so that they may not get alerted by screams. Later the dead bodies were stacked in three gunny bags and disposed of in different locations, said Mishra.
SP Mishra lauded the role of police team including ASP Dinesh Kaushal, CSP (Lashkar) Deepak Bhargawa and others and announced reward of Rs 10,000 for the team. Accused were booked under section 302, 201 and 120 b.
