Gangster's accomplice killed by police in Gwalior, father alleges fake encounter

In a late night encounter on Monday, the police killed an accomplice of gangster Harendra Rana in Gwalior, while two of his other accomplices succeeded in fleeing the spot.

The deceased was identified as Dharmendra Kushwaha.

Crime branch Additional superintendent of police (ASP) Pratima Mathew had received a tip-off that Rana's accomplice Bhola Jat - who carries a reward of R50,000 -- was hiding near Sheetla Mata Mandir, following which the police reached the spot and a gun fight ensued between police and gangsters.

In the firing, a gang member Dharmendra Singh Kushwaha was killed while two members mananged to escape.

In the incident, two constables were also injured seriously. The police suspect that Bhola Jat fled the spot.

ASP Virendra Jain said, "The gang members had come to kill Pankaj Bhadoriya, the brother of property dealer Billo Bhadoriya, who was also killed by Harendra Rana. Pankaj is an eye-witness in Billo's murder."

However, Dharmendra's father, Mohar Singh, a resident of Hazira, alleged that it was a fake encounter.

Tensions flared up in the Hazira area following the encounter and heavy police force had to be deployed in the area.
