Warnings like ‘Tobacco and cigarette can cause cancer’ and ‘Alcohol is bad for liver’ are common but in Madhya Pradesh a special warning is being pasted at liquor and pan shops i.e. ‘Quit addiction to save the society and spread happiness’.
This Rakshabandhan, Madhya Pradesh government has started a campaign to ask brothers to become ‘Sanskaari’ (man of etiquettes or acceptable behaviour) while expecting of them to give up all sorts of addictions to make a society free of many problems like domestic violence, malnutrition, crime against women and others.
The women empowerment department of MP has launched a campaign On August 7 and it will continue for whole year.
Under the campaign, department will persuade the girls/women to ask for this gift from their brothers.
WCD has also asked excise department to paste the letters on every liquor shops to motivate people to give up alcohol. Similarly, the letter will be posted at Pan shops, restaurants, hotels and snacks shop near liquor shop with the help of district administration.
The public representative including ministers, MLAs and sarpanch are also participating in the campaign in all the districts. Aganwadi workers will provide ‘sankalp patra’ (Letter of resolution) to sisters of getting free of addiction gift from brothers to make the society free from every kinds of ill effect.

{{/usCountry}}Women and child development minister Archana Chitnis said, “The department has prepared a letter in which they have mentioned that from now onwards brothers will keep themselves away from every kind of addictions and will save the society from ill effects of it. Almost all the departments will participate in it.”
The campaign and the resolution letter will also reach the masses through general shops, schools and colleges too.
“The de-addiction campaign is necessary. Addiction of alcohol has spoiled many families,” said Chitnis.
According to an officer of the department, this campaign will help the government in getting successful to implement the liquor ban in the state.
It is not the first time when BJP led MP government has introduced a de-addiction campaign.
In April, chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced imposition of ban on liquor in a phased manner. Later, panchayat minister Gopal Bhargava also distributed washing bats to newly brides to fix their drunk husbands.
