Accompanied by his wife, Amrita Singh, the senior Congress leader set off on foot from Barman ghat in Narsinghpur district on what he said would be a religious and spiritual journey. He would cover 3,300 kilometers in the next six months.

Talking to HT, Digvijaya Singh said the demand for a mobile toilet was made by him as there were a number of devotees who were accompanying him on the yatra.

“If they go outside to respond to the call of nature, my rivals would malign my image levelling accusations of uncleanliness against me. We were provided with a mobile toilet by the district administration in Narsinghpur but it’s not in good condition so nobody used it. It was the villagers who helped us”, he said.

On the issue of leadership of the state Congress ahead of 2018 assembly elections in the state, he said he would not make any political comments during the yatra.

Digvijaya Singh covered 3 km, up to Badiaghat, on day one of his Narmada Parikrama on Saturday where he had a night halt. On Sunday he was supposed to cover a 13 km stretch up to Katiaghat. .
