A one-and-half-year-old girl was kidnapped from the general waiting room of Sagar railway station when her parents were asleep, police said on Friday.

Sagar GRP station officer VP Bohre said the girl’s parents were labourers, who arrived from Delhi on Thursday night to visit their native town Banda in Sagar.

Bohre said Rajkumar Ahirwar, a native of Banda town, had reached Sagar by Utkal Express along with his wife and daughter Payal. The couple decided to spend the night in the general waiting room at platform number 1.

In the meantime, an unidentified person reached there and pretended to play with the child. When the couple fell asleep, the accused fled with the child.

Another woman, who was also in the same room, informed the couple that she saw a man taking away their child.

The couple immediately informed the matter to GRP personnel, who conducted a search operation at the railway station but finally failed to find her.

Later, police were informed about the matter and a case had been registered.
