A legislature party meet of the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) will be convened at 7pm at the chief minister’s house on Wednesday, the day of the budget session of the Madhya Pradesh assembly.

During the meeting to be attended by the state-in-charge and national BJP vice-president Vinay Sahasrabuddhe, the legislators are likely to be told to adopt an aggressive stand in defending the chief minister in the recruitment scam.

The scam is likely to be raised prominently by the Congress in the upcoming budget session, especially since Congress leaders have made fresh allegations with documents alleging that the special task force (STF) of the state police was trying to shield the chief minister.

Sources said the meeting was to be initially held on Tuesday.

However, since the House is likely to be adjourned after condolence messages on the opening day, it was decided to hold the meeting on Wednesday, a day before the business of the House commences.

The chief minister is likely to tell the legislators that the recruitment scam has not affected the electoral fortunes of the party in any way, as is evident from the successes the BJP has met in the previous assembly and Lok Sabha elections and the recently concluded urban bodies’ polls.

The chief minister has termed the allegations against him as an attempt at character assassination by the Congress party.

Officially, the BJP has stated that the legislature party meet was being held to apprise the MLAs of the ongoing membership drive of the ruling party.
