35-year-old Prakash Pal, who used to drive an auto-rickshaw in Pune, left behind a suicide note and a written complaint which said he took the extreme step after suspecting his wife’s – 35-year-old Smita -- fidelity.

The incident came to light after the couple’s son informed the neighbours at around 2 am.

The matter was reported to the police and the bodies were sent for an autopsy.

According to superintendent of police of Betul Rakesh Jain, Prakash married Smita five years ago against his family’s wish.

Police investigations revealed that Smita was Prakash’s distant cousin (both natives of Betul’s Athner area).

Since the last few months, the couple was having regular spats and Prakash suspected that his wife was having extra-marital relations.

In the suicide note, Prakash blamed his two sisters, a cousin, brother-in-law and his wife for the incident. He had a tiff with his sisters and brother-in-law for siding with Smita, the police said.
