Racketeers in the multi-crore rupees Pre-Medical Test (PMT) scam in the state seem to have targeted reserved category students, including Scheduled Tribes (ST) and Scheduled Castes (SC), to facilitate them with impersonators to write the test, police officials said.
The startling revelation came while examining the three cases registered against 44 MBBS students at the Garha police station, Jabalpur, for taking help of impersonators to write the PMT for them.
The rationale behind the modus operandi of the racketeers was that, compared to the general category aspirants, quota candidates are selected at lower percentage of scores for MBBS course as seats are reserved for them.
Thus, racketeers targeted them, as in their case, the impersonators would be required to score less marks in the PMT.
Scoring percentage of the successful candidates of general category is high compared to the reserved category in the PMT, officials said.
Out of 44 MBBS students, 30 students belong to the reserved categories, including SC and ST, according to police sources.
Most accused students belong to the ST category from different districts of MP including Mandla, Dindori, Shahdol, Anuppur, Jhabua and Alirajpur.

{{/usCountry}}However, seven-eight accused students belonging to SC category come from Bhind and Morena.
“Many of the accused students belonging to the reserved category scored 70% plus marks in the PMT which is far above the marks they scored in Class 12 board examination,” additional superintendent of police (crime) Ashish Khare, said.
“The racketeers picked the reserved category students so that the impersonators could secure seat for them in MBBS course easily,” he added.
