Minister of state for external affairs MJ Akbar said in Bhopal on Sunday tiranga yatras across the country had created a wave of nationalistic fervour, which “we have to channelise creatively in the right direction” for strengthening the nation.
Akbar said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had started various schemes and projects for the welfare of farmers, poor, labourers, youth, women and downtrodden, which need to implemented in a proper way. “We have to think about the last man. Until all people come out of poverty, our efforts will remain somewhat incomplete. Political freedom will be incomplete without economic freedom and self-sufficiency,” he said.
Akbar said this before flagging off the tiranga yatra in Bhopal’s Govindpura assembly segment on Sunday.
He was accompanied by former home minister Babulal Gaur, who is also the local MLA, mayor Alok Sharma and member of parliament Bhopal Alok Sanjar.
“The tricolour, under which we are journeying on the path of development, has a chakra in its middle. This chakra is symbolic of our movement forward towards a prosperous nation. We have to dedicate ourselves to protect the spirit of our tricolour and fulfill the dreams of our freedom fighters,” Akbar said.
Akbar had to leave the tiranga yatra midway as he had to attend some important function in Delhi, said yatra organisers.

On August 9, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the 15-day programme ‘Yaad Karo Kurbani’ (August 9-23) to commemorate the 70th year of India’s Independence and 75th anniversary of the Quit India Movement from the birth place of Chandrashekhar Azad in Alirajpur district.
